Last month The Unit London announced the launch of its second landmark exhibition of 2014, ‘U’. A portrait exhibition that is anything but traditional, ‘U’ will shed light on the state of identity in the modern age, on an evening that will also mark the gallery’s 1 year Anniversary.
The collection of works on display are all in some way abstracted, deformed, concealed or destroyed, offering insight into the very modern notion of fractured identity which has come to bear in today’s hyper-digitalised age. Collectively, the artworks force the viewer to question whether the age we live in has improved our capacity for self-expression and interaction, or has instead diminished human intimacy and disturbed our very perceptions of identity and individuality.
Featuring a breathtaking collection of work from a small, handpicked group of today’s most exciting contemporary artists:
IVAN ALIFAN
RYAN HEWETT JAKE WOOD-EVANS SNIK HENRIK ULDALEN MARK DEMSTEADER
Articles and blog posts about the show have to date included items in FAD, Wall Street International, Platinum Cheese and Beautiful Bizarre Magazine.
An exclusive video interview with Jake Wood-Evans, filmed at his Hastings studio talking about producing new work for the show, can be viewed below.
